BUILDING COMMUNITIES

Building Communities

Our Building Community driver is very much focused on ensuring our children develop a sense of pride in their locality and gain an understanding of its geographical and historical features. We also want them to know about local and national issues and where appropriate take an active part in working to solve them. As a school, we support Chahhari School in Nepal; just one way that our children gain a better understanding of what it means to be a global citizen.

We are currently in the process of applying to become one of the first Schools of Sanctuary in Devon. Four of our Class 4 pupils have become 'Sanctuary Ambassadors' and we have been working alongside the Pickwell Foundation to help us achieve the award.

Here are some quotes from our Sanctuary Ambassadors:

'I would like to help new people feel welcome and accepted.'

'My mum and grandma are from a different country and they felt accepted in this country. I want to help other people feel the same.'

'I would like to let my light shine by welcoming new people.'

As part of our work towards our Schools of Sanctuary award, our most recent Vision Day involved us welcoming visitors representing different countries to share their cultures with us through food, music, art and costume!
