ATTENDANCE

Why is Good School Attendance Important?

At High Bickington Academy, we believe that regular and punctual attendance is key to helping children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Consistent attendance not only supports children in achieving their full potential but also helps them develop essential life skills that will benefit them in the future.

Good attendance enables children to:

  • Engage fully in their learning
  • Build and manage friendships
  • Develop new and exciting skills
  • Have fun and enjoy new experiences
  • Grow an understanding and respect for different cultures, religions, ethnicities, and genders
  • Boost their confidence and self-esteem
  • Feel a sense of belonging within the school community
  • Prioritise their well-being and happiness
  • Lay the foundations for future success and opportunities

Missing school means missing out! Every day in school is a chance for your child to learn something new, make friends, and build the confidence they need for the future.

Department for Education Expectations

The Department for Education (DfE) expects every child to attend school regularly, with a minimum attendance of 96%. Schools are required to monitor attendance closely and take action when it falls below this level. As parents and carers, you play a crucial role in ensuring that your child attends school every day and arrives on time, helping them achieve their best.

Being Late—Does It Matter?

Yes! Even arriving just a few minutes late can have a significant impact on your child’s learning and overall experience at school. Punctuality helps children develop positive habits that will carry through to their adult lives.

  • Arriving 5 minutes late each day adds up to 3 days of learning lost every year.
  • Arriving 15 minutes late each day adds up to 10 days (2 weeks) of lost learning each year.

By ensuring your child is on time and attends regularly, you are helping them make the most of their time at school and setting them up for success in the future.
