Safeguarding & CHILD PROTECTION

Online safety

Most young people are accessing the internet from a variety of devices.   Safe use of the internet is taught in our Personal Development Curriculum, Assesmblies and on Impact Days.

However, all adults need to be aware of safeguarding issues around the internet.  A useful source of free and current advice can be found at https://nationalonlinesafety.com/latest-news/.

Other useful websites for parents include https://childnet.com

Children have access to the internet on their mobile phones and often in their bedrooms, we would encourage that all children go online in a family area where everyone is together and the content viewed can be seen and heard by all. This would help you to be instantly aware of any issues.

There is a lot of support available to keep your child safe online. Below are some useful links to help parents and carers:

  • Thinkyouknow (advice from the National Crime Agency to stay safe online)
  • Internet matters (support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online)
  • Parent info (support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online)
  • LGfL (support for parents and carers to keep their children safe online)
  • Net-aware (support for parents and carers from the NSPCC)

Online Safety Group

Mr Hick runs an Online Safety Group at Pilton Bluecoat Academy, involving Trustees, staff, parents and pupils from our TEAM schools. If any parents would like to join the group they would be more than welcome. The group meets twice a term discussing online safety issues and how as a school we can best address the e-safety issues and help to keep our children safe online. If you are interested in joining this group, please contact Mr Hick at Pilton Bluecoat.
