Dear Parents and Carers,
You know we are approaching the end of the school year when so many of Class Four are out during the week at the various secondary school taster days. It's been a busy week for the Y6s with their TEAM taster events and for Y5s who have had the chance to visit three very local secondary schools. Of course, the latter group still have a long way to go and much to learn in the next year! Many thanks to Mrs Spenger and Mrs Humphries for putting on the TEAM events.
Fantastic Feedback
It was fantastic to hear from SMCC today, following the Y5 taster day yesterday. They took the time to give us a special phone call and were super-complimentary about the children who visited from HB saying, how impeccable our Y5 students were. They noticed that they have 'manners that were second to none' and 'amazing behaviour and attitude'. Some of the Y9 students there commented that, 'the children in the purple sweatshirts are so lovely and kind.' Well done everyone who attended: you are a credit to yourselves and HB school.
Bikeability
Next week, the Year Sixes will be taking part in the training and testing for Bikeability. As there will be 11 large bicycles and a trike in school all week, there will be no space for scooters or bikes of children from other year groups. For next week, please do not allow your child to scoot or cycle to school unless you are able to take their vehicle away with you once they have arrived in the morning. From Monday 29th, normal operations can be resumed. Thank you.
BaaB
Our last Book and a Biscuit of the year will be after school on Monday 13th July. Please do try to come along and have a last look at the incredible work that your child has completed in their various books. Most books will be coming home at the end of term, but here is a chance to sit down with your child and have them talk you through their work with teachers on hand to answer any questions.
Class Four Cricketers
Although the weather was certainly not 'cricket weather' (it was wet, cold and windy), the High Bick cricketers were magnificent in their determination to play as much cricket as was on offer. After winning the first game, the team suffered a series of narrow defeats, but not one of the players was defeated. The team spirit and encouragement for one another was tremendous to see. Special mention in this regard to Evelyn, who was our captain on the day and who kept everyone motivated. Really well played also: William, William, Daniel, Freddie M, Esmay, Isaac, Niah, Oscar and Frank.
Class Two Runners
Wow! What a tremendous effort from Clara, Maia, Oliver and Reuben who all represented TEAM at the Barnstaple Legacy Olympics on Wednesday afternoon. They had to run a long way in their race and all managed to complete the course. I know that Mr Turner, our trust's PE Lead, was very impressed.
Familiar Face
Next Wednesday, you may well see a familiar face back around school as Mrs Game will be in for the first of her return to work days. I'm sure she will be warmly welcomed by the children and I know she will be by the staff. In spite of our 'Strong' judgement for EYFS at Ofsted, earned over many years of development, we do not want to stand still. For that reason, Mrs Game and I will be visiting other settings to see how they manage their EY provision.
FIFA World Cup
It was great to see so many England shirts and general redness on Wednesday in the build up to the game in the evening. We will offer the chance for children to come in non-uniform on all days that England are playing in exchange for a 50p+ donation to PTA. Also, if you have particular allegiance to Scotland, Argentina or any other side at the World Cup (sorry Wales fans!), you are welcome to wear your shirt on any day they are playing - again for a small donation to PTA. England's remaining mid-week group fixture is next Tuesday (23rd June). After a great win, it is probably best not to change anything, so we will go again then with non-uniform. After that we will wait and see!
Football Excellence
Talking of football, Daniel in Y6 loves to play and has had an excellent season personally with Torridgeside FC. At the recent awards for the end of the season, Dan was presented with the Manager's Player of the Season trophy. What a brilliant accolade, Daniel ... we are all super proud of you.
Music Excellence
And it isn't just talented footballers ... Many congratulations go to Zoe for passing her Copper Medal award in piano at the first attempt! Beautiful playing, Zoe!
